A fogger turns liquid into a droplet small enough to hang in the air and drift into the places insects actually rest, which is why it reaches roof voids, drains and dense planting that a sprayer cannot. Thermal machines produce a visible fog that carries well outdoors. ULV machines produce a fine cold mist that suits enclosed and occupied spaces where a visible fog would be alarming or would trigger a detector.
Most operators end up owning both. If you are buying one machine, the deciding question is whether your work is mainly outdoors after dark or mainly inside buildings during the day.
