The vessel sets the timetable

Port work runs backwards from the ship, not forwards from the enquiry. Sealing, exposure and ventilation take more than a working day between them, and the cargo still has to reach the terminal afterwards.

If the remaining time will not carry the job properly, we turn it down. A hold that never reached full strength leaves you worse off than an untreated container, because it hands you a record implying the cargo was dealt with.

Stores around the harbour

Transit sheds and warehousing near the harbour carry the usual stored product and rodent pressure, made worse by doors that stand open through a working day. Exclusion is worth more here than treatment frequency.

The hotel trade around the bay

The tourism trade has grown steadily around the bay, and it brings the bedbug and fly work that goes with guest turnover and open-fronted dining. Both are planned around occupancy and service rather than dropped into the middle of them.

Distance and how we schedule it

This is a long way from our base, so work here is planned rather than reactive. Jobs are grouped into a trip and booked ahead, and we will be honest at the enquiry about when we can realistically be there. For port work that is rarely a problem, because the vessel dates are known well in advance anyway.
